IVI PR Meeting May 15, 2025
Attendee List:
Walt Miner (The Linux Foundation)
Scott Murray (Konsulko)
Joel Winarske (Toyota)
Meeting Summary:
Rockchip T6 Board Discussion:
The team discussed hardware options for Amr’s GSoC project, focusing on the Rockchip T6 board.
The Rockchip T6 board was chosen due to its affordability ($129 USD), availability, and existing interest from team members in Japan.
Current issues with the Rockchip T6 board were noted, including build problems in the Yocto environment. Scott Murray plans to address these issues.
The board's performance (30 TOPS) was deemed sufficient for initial project needs, though it is underpowered compared to alternatives like Nvidia Orin (67 TOPS).
The team agreed to prioritize the Rockchip T6 board for the project and ensure its compatibility with the AGL UCB.
AI and Kernel Support:
The discussion included the challenges of vendor lock-in with AI hardware and the need for kernel support for NPUs (Neural Processing Units).
Modular Mojo and other open-source solutions were mentioned as potential future directions for AI development.
Project Timeline:
The hardware needs to be ready for a GSoC coding starting June 1st.
Next Steps:
Scott Murray will work on resolving build issues with the Rockchip T6 board.
Jan-Simon will work with Amr to obtain the Rockchip board.
